Protecting Your Client’s Reputation in Today’s Emerging Media Landscape
Understanding today’s fast-changing communications environment is critical for lawyers engaged in a wide range of practice areas. Whether counseling clients facing litigation, crisis situations, or other challenges, client reputation needs to be protected in the court of public opinion while an outcome is pending in the court of law. Navigating an inquiry from The New York Times or a legal trade publication is one thing; managing reputation in the emerging media terrain of Google, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube is quite another. This session will provide helpful, real-life perspectives on how you can get the most out of working with an expert communications consultant – and preventable pitfalls to avoid.

Litigation Financing: An Introduction
Litigation finance is a relatively new but simple idea. Investors provide funding to cover the costs of a case in return for payment if the case is won. The return comes in the form of a multiple of the funding commitment offered in the first place. Not very long ago, such funding arrangements were held to be unlawful. But it is now recognized that without third-party funding many claimants would not be able to afford to pursue valid claims, thus serving a useful social purpose by providing access to justice. However, not everyone agrees. This session will explore the influence litigation financing has on litigation and some of the ethical questions that have arisen as its use has become more widely embraced.
