Firm Profile
Curtis Thaxter LLC is a Maine-based law firm founded in 1975 by a group of attorneys led by former Maine Governor and U.S. Ambassador to Canada, Kenneth M. Curtis. It is dedicated to the values Gov. Curtis exemplifies: professionalism, accessibility, a problem-solving orientation, and involvement in the significant issues of the times. The firm combines the expertise of a large firm with the responsiveness and personal attention of a smaller firm. The firm’s primary objective is to provide its clients with the highest quality legal service in the most prompt, cost-effective and efficient manner possible. The firm has engaged in work in its specialty areas across the county and with Canadian clients. The firm’s clients range from the largest publicly-traded and privately–held businesses to individuals, small businesses and non-profit organizations. August 2019: Maureen Keegan of Maine member firm Curtis Thaxter recently assisted a London firm with the resolution of a complex international estate tax issue for an English estate valued at over $25,000,000. The estate held valuable U.S. real property subject to state estate tax liens. The increase in U.S. estate tax exemptions and the marital deduction does not always flow through to non-U.S. citizens, raising potential estate planning opportunities. Ms. Keegan, who focuses her practice on estate planning, estate and trust administration, family business transactions and taxation, has had considerable experience handling multistate and international estate tax matters, as well as probate litigation for high net worth individuals. She is a CPA and a graduate of the University of Maine School of Law.
