Mike was selected by the Young Lawyers Division of the North Carolina Bar Association for his commitment to strengthening our democracy and promoting civic engagement.  Law Day is celebrated annually by the NCBA, the YLD and the North Carolina Bar Foundation on the first Friday in May, as proclaimed by the governor. May 2019: North Carolina member firm Poyner Spruill associate Cheslie Kryst beat out 50 other contestants May 2nd to become Miss USA 2019. She will go on to represent the United States in the Miss Universe pageant in South Korea. Ms. Kryst, who also earned an M.B.A. before obtaining her law degree from Wake Forest University, focuses her practice on government and business-related disputes, constitutional litigation and construction disputes in the firm’s Charlotte office. In addition to her law practice and pageants, Ms. Kryst runs a fashion blog, “White Collar Glam,” that focuses on workwear fashion for women. She also volunteers at Dress for Success, an international nonprofit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

July 2018: Former North Carolina congressman Mike McIntyre of North Carolina member firm Poyner Spruill has been named the recipient of the Chief Justice I. Beverly Lake Jr. Public Service Award, recognizing a North Carolina lawyer who has rendered a lifetime of exemplary public service. The award was conferred by the North Carolina Bar Association at its annual convention June 21st in Wilmington, North Carolina. In presenting the award, North Carolina Bar Association immediate past president Kearns Davis said Mr. McIntyre has “inspired citizens, students, and his fellow attorneys through his professional, community, civic and personal activities, as well as through his exemplary public service. Throughout his career, Congressman McIntyre has relentlessly advocated for a better understanding of our legal system and has made significant contributions to and on behalf of the legal profession locally, statewide and nationally, and on behalf of North Carolina schools and communities.” As senior advisor and director of government relations at Poyner Spruill, Mr. McIntyre focuses his practice on government work on the local, state and national levels, as well as business, real estate, agribusiness, environmental, military, sports and entertainment law. Before joining the firm, he represented North Carolina’s 7th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1997 to 2015.
