SCG Legal February 2025 Newsletter
In 2024, over 70 countries held national elections, representing approximately 4 billion people. In many of these countries, political leadership shifted as voters increasingly moved away from incumbent governments and turned to “outsiders” for leadership. These significant political changes are driving global disruptions, with notable transformations reshaping governments, economies, and societies alike.
With the first two months of 2025 behind us, early indicators suggest that this year will be one of the most active in recent history for the legal industry, driven by shifts in the political landscape. Additionally, the rapid evolution of AI tools and resources is catalyzing a transformation within the legal field. Law firms are not only adjusting to meet their clients’ needs but are also actively assessing and implementing new AI technologies to enhance their operations.
On February 12, Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC) released its 2025 State of the Industry Report, providing a comprehensive look at the shifting landscape of legal operations. Key findings from the report:
- 83% of legal departments expect demand to increase, with 63% identifying workload and resource bandwidth as their top challenge.
- AI adoption has nearly doubled from 2024, with 30% of inhouse legal teams already using AI and 54% planning to adopt it within the next two years.
- Many legal departments remain in the “emerging to developing” stage of maturity, balancing strategic priorities with the realities of limited resources.
- Alternative legal service providers (ALSPs) are expanding beyond eDiscovery into contract management and legal staffing solutions.
These findings highlight the growing pressures and opportunities facing an industry shaped by political change, technological innovation, and societal shifts. As the next generation of attorneys steps into leadership roles, it’s clear that law firms must adapt and evolve to meet the increasing demand for multi-jurisdictional support and expertise.

REMINDER: REFERRALS
As you know, it can take numerous interactions to build the rapport and establish the trust that enables client referrals. Once that foundation is laid, referrals become nearly seamless, and Members invest in each other’s success naturally. As Member-to-Member client referrals occur, please help SCG track them. Doing so is critical to:
- Offer a clear picture of membership value, especially for annual Member firm renewals and prospect Member firm invitations;
- Ensure acknowledgement of/credit to the referring firm; and
- Ensure the firm receiving a referral has an opportunity to profile their practice/s.
Please BCC SCG CEO Alina Gorokhovsky (agorokhovsky@scglegal.com) on any referral emails. If that’s not possible because of client confidentiality, please send her a separate email letting her know the firm you referred the client/matter to and, as able, the related practice or industry. If you have any questions/ suggestions about this request, please contact her directly.
